Mineral set up in free range cattle country
« on: August 11, 2010, 12:01:49 PM »
Hi, Im new to this site, really cool to see this many Washington hunters in one place!

I had a question about mineral lick set ups and cows.

In my area I occasionally notice white block style blocks on national forrest land.  I assume it is for the cattle that range there in the summer.  Because of this I've never thought to develop my own site.

Im interested in putting together a good set up in cattle country.  Is it better to use a block rather than loose mineral?  The last thing I want is to have cows taking a dump in the middle of a mineral lick :)

is it feasible to target deer and not cows?

Thanks!
-Joe

Salt block will dissipate in less time. Especially if there is rain.

If you do plan on doing it make sure that nobody is watching you because placing the salt lick will constitute a littering charge. And since it is on national forest land it could also be a federal littering charge.
